DIY sourdough breadcrumbs
Sourdough breadcrumbs to make your hipster foodie dreams come true. My favourite recipes are the ones that are so easy they are barely a recipe… But seriously, why buy breadcrumbs when you can make them at home?
This super easy recipe is a great way to use up the ends of your loaf of bread that you never eat…
You can use any type of bread you like - I love the flavour of sourdough.
DIY Sourdough Breadcrumbs
Makes about 1 cup
4-5 slices sourdough
salt & pepper
2 sprigs parsley, finely chopped - or any herb of your choosing
Set your oven to low heat.
Place the sourdough on an oven tray and pop in the oven for 45-60 minutes, until completely dried out.
Crumble the bread and place in a blender. Blitz. Add salt & pepper + herbs. Blitz some more. I liked the crumbs quite large like panko style but you can keep going until fine. Voila! That’s it!
I deep fried small pieces of barramundi in Extra virgin olive oil for about 1 minute at 190C after dipping in flour, egg and the breadcrumbs. Had lots of crumbs left over so popped in the freezer for next time.
No go forth and deep fry everything!
Also a good quality extra virgin olive oil is perfectly fine to deep fry with. In fact it's the most stable oil to cook with!
