Gut health: How to Enjoy Kefir

What is Kefir?

Kefir is a fermented milk drink full of gut friendly probiotics - it's tart and creamy like yoghurt but a lot thinner.

It is made by fermenting a kefir grain (which unfortunately does contain gluten my coeliac friends) in fresh milk at room temperature. As the milk ferments it doesn't spoil and will also help change the structure of the milk proteins, making it easier to digest for some.

How to enjoy kefir

there are so many ways to incorporate kefir into your daily routine. Here are some easy examples!

1. With muesli or cereal

Swap boring milk or your usual yoghurt with some tart kefir and reap the benefits!

2. In a smoothie

Again swapping your usual milk for kefir will add richness, tart flavour and thicker consistency.

3. Drizzled over desserts

For a healthy dessert try poaching or baking some fruit or apple crumble and drizzle with kefir.

4. Swap into dressings and sauces

Instead of using greek yoghurt of sour cream, try swapping them for kefir - just remember it will be a lot thinner!
