Summer strawberry cherry & chia smoothie with rosewater

Summer strawberry cherry & chia smoothie with rosewater

It’s berry season again! This delicious refreshing smoothie using summer berries is perfect on a hot day or a lovely festive light Christmas breakfast.

Growing up in close proximity to cherry and strawberry farms meant that I was fairly spolied. Fruit bought from the supermarket just does not taste the same as a fresh sun-warmed strawberry eaten straight from the ground.

Strawberries are one of my favourite fruits and they are also very good for you. They are high in Vitamin C, fibre and folic acid. They are also full of phytonutrients and flavanoids which is why they are such a vibrant red colour.

Every Christmas I visit my family and get a big 5kg tray of strawberry seconds for about $12 and use this to make jam for presents, as well as portion up and freeze for later.

Here is a delicious smoothie recipe that I hope you enjoy!

Serves 1

  • 3-4 hulled strawberries

  • 4-5 pitted cherries

  • 2 tbs greek yoghurt or kefir

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1/2 tsp rosewater

  • 1 tbs chia seeds

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blitz until smooth. Enjoy!

  • Using frozen berries will make this into a thicker smoothie

  • You can also add ice to increase thickness and hydration

  • freeze these into popsicles for a refreshing treat!
