Cardamom Spiced Beetroot & Cacao Milk

I love drinking milk post workout - it is a great way to provide your body with the essential proteins, minerals and electrolytes that it needs to recover from exercise!

This beetroot milk is a lovely one for helping to decrease blood pressure and improve blood flow, allowing for increased oxygen to move throughout the body and especially good for those who may be at risk of cardiovascular disease. Beetroot is also full of antioxidants which helps the body combat oxidation from increased instances of physical stress. Cacao is also antioxidant rich and may have neuro-protective effects. Cardamom on the other hand is a great spice for aiding digestion and bloating - but most importantly my mum uses it in her Sri Lankan cooking and sometimes I get a big craving for the taste and smell.

I recently got a bunch of cacao and organic beetroot powder from The Grove so decided to experiment with beetroot milk which people have told me about recently as being delicious! I really like the beetroot powder as it is actually powdered whole beetroot - not an extract!

Cardamom Spiced Beetroot & Cacao Milk

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Organic Beetroot powder
  • 2 teaspoons Cacao 
  • 2 crushed cardamom pods
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla paste
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey
  • 1 cup milk (I used organic cows milk - you could also substitute for almond or coconut milk)

Method

  1. Pop all the ingredients in a blender and blend until combined
  2. Pour into your glass through a strainer to catch the cardamom pods, sprinkle some more cinnamon on top and enjoy the goodness!
